When I was thinking about my degree project, reflecting back on what I truly value in life, I couldn't deny that Christianity is the most important identity of mine and wanted to create a piece of work that praises God. I often wonder about the beauty of the natural world that God has created, and simply sympathize with the classic Hymn, Hymn 478: This is My Father’s World. My body of work combines the deep appreciation of the natural world that we live in as well as my roots as Korean -- where my work took reference to the art style of ancient Korean paintings. The painting style transformed to weavings investigates my adornment of nature and its beauty.
Images above are Ai Files for the cover and the frames of the book, which are laser cut plexiglass, and below are prototype made to test what the frames would look like before it was created in actual size. On the bottom right, a small hole and slots were made so that the thread that parts the pages in exact length could be intertwined within the frame.
The front and back cover are matte plexiglass, whereas the frames were created with glossed plexiglass. The matte cover is an design element that enhances the secretive mood the book holds.
The warp of the frame looms were made with cotton thread. which micro fiber of the thread creates fuzziness acting as curtains that makes the overall atmosphere of the weaving hazy when they are placed in front and behind the frames, creating one image.
